Cooler weekend with slight rain chances

As our overall weather pattern changes, cooler air will filter into Mid-Missouri starting this weekend.

In the upper levels, a ridge will form and strengthen over the western U.S., leading to a period of prolonged hot and dry conditions west of the Central Plains. Meanwhile, toward the Midwest and eastern U.S., a trough will form. The northwesterly flow will continue to bring cooler-than-normal temperatures to Mid-Missouri.

Highs for the weekend (and through Tuesday) will remain in the middle-to-upper 70s, about ten degrees below our average late June/early July high temperature of 86°.

Spotty showers and isolated t-storms will be possible Saturday as the outer bands of an area of low pressure rotate in from the north during the afternoon. Any rain/storms will be spotty and mainly east of Highway 63. On Sunday, as bands continue to rotate it, we'll pick up on more clouds and a very slight chance of light spotty rain, primarily south of I-44 and east toward Illinois.
