Heavy Rain, Strong Winds and Hail in Mid-Missouri

Rainfall amounts Wednesday were impressive in Mid-Missouri with widespread 1 to 2 inch amounts and locally up to 3 inches.  Scattered thunderstorms started the day with pockets of heavy rain and frequent lightning. Storms become more organized during the afternoon and early evening and strengthened as they approached HWY 63 producing some strong wind gusts and large hail. Wind damage was reported in Jefferson City where a 6 inch diameter tree was blown over. Another report of wind damage came in from Gasconade of a telephone line down due to strong winds while golfball size hail was reported in Pershing. Other reports of large hail of 1 to 1-1/2 in. came in from Rhineland, Newburg and St. James.
