Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel

COLUMBIA, Mo. -

Gary Pinkel will receive a new contract extension that will raise his base salary to at least $3 million, according to a report from PowerMizzou.com. The report says the length of the deal is unknown at this time. The contract will be pending approval from the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

Missouri went 12-2 and won the 2014 Cotton Bowl classic this past season.

Pinkel signed a two-year contract extension in 2011. His base salary is currently set at $2.35 million. The current deal runs through the 2017 season. According to USA Today, Pinkel is the 20th highest paid coach in the SEC.

The news of a contract extension is not surprising. Gary Pinkel was linked to to the Washington head coaching job in December. However, the Missouri coach reaffirmed his commitment to the Tigers shortly after the rumors started to spread.

"I’m looking forward to sitting down with Gary after the season and focus on ways to build on these successes and recognize the significant contributions Gary and his staff have made to our program," Mizzou athletic director Mike Alden said in a statement in December. "We are so pleased with Gary’s commitment to Mizzou and I look forward to working with Gary for a long time.”

Pinkel is Missouri football's winningest coach with 102 victories. He passed Don Faurot on the program's all-time wins list after the Cotton Bowl victory earlier this year.
