Tornado-ravaged town pulls together in tragedy

Help continues to arrive in storm-ravaged central Arkansas.

The National Weather Service has given Sunday night's tornado a preliminary EF-3 rating with winds stronger than 136 miles per hour.

So far, 15 people are confirmed dead in Faulkner County, but the area has received plenty of support.

Starting at 8:00 Tuesday morning, people were able to go to Mayflower Middle School to pick up water, food, and supplies.

Mayflower and Vilonia, Arkansas were two of the hardest hit towns in Arkansas Sunday night, both of which are about 30 miles north of Little Rock.

Groups delivered water to workers and families in the destroyed areas of the town.

All day Tuesday the supplies were well-stocked.

No matter how hard volunteers tried to get rid of it, it just kept coming back.

"We're doing what we need to do to make sure people are impacted as little as possible with the horrible situation," said one volunteer.

Tonya Miller's house sat just outside the tornado's damage path, but within the hour of it lifting she came to Mayflower Middle School to help coordinate volunteers.

"Because the kids have went here and graduated from here, we kept in contact. You just know. We're probably faster than Facebook,"said Miller.

So the friends of Mayflower responded with supplies.

Instead of the piles shrinking as relief went on, they've grown bigger, because whatever someone needs, it gets donated.

That's the kind of town Mayflower is; mess with some of them, and all of them will respond.

"We are more than just a community. I think we're brothers and sisters and families. There's nothing like a small town. It's like we're the village and we're gonna take care of each other.

While things operate smoothly at the middle school for now, it's still unclear when people will be able to return home.

Power is still out in most of town, and a boil order issued Monday is still in effect.
