COLUMBIA, Mo. -

The Special Olympics ended Sunday night in Columbia, after three days of competition across town.

But the games will not return to Columbia next summer.

The Special Olympics will be held in Springfield in 2015, part of a rotation that happens every three or four years.

"We were actually at Springfield before coming to Columbia three years ago, so we know what we're going to get," said public relations coordinator Brandon Schatsiek. "We're excited but we're sad to leave the Columbia community as well."

The games continued Sunday with bowling and track and field events.

More than 2,500 athletes and coaches participated in the Special Olympics in Columbia this weekend.
