An overnight shooting and stabbing left two men wounded in Jefferson City.
Police did not say Sunday if the two incidents were related.
Emergency dispatch originally got a call about a gunshot victim around 1:56 a.m. from a business in the 1400 block of Missouri Boulevard.
Judy Pruett, a resident on Edmonds, where the shooting happened, woke up to her son banging on the door to be let in.
"I asked him what was going on and he said 'Hurry up, open the door, they're out here shooting like crazy,'" Pruett said.
The 19-year-old Columbia man had walked to a business from the 1500 block of Edmonds with a single gunshot wound to the back. He told investigators he walked there because he was unfamiliar with the area.
Officers found evidence of the shooting at that scene, but no other victims. Police were working on a suspect vehicle description.
Then, at 4:30 a.m., police were called for a stabbing victim who had shown up at the emergency room at Capitol Region Medical Center.
Investigators learned the incident had happened earlier in the area of East McCarty Street and Chestnut Street.
Billy Gene Allen said he was having a homecoming party with his friends at the time the stabbing happened.
"I don't know what's going on. I know maybe some altercations happened but we were just out here having fun. I didn't see a stabbing," Allen said.
According to a news release, police conducted a canvas of that area but found nothing. Several individuals at the hospital refused to identify themselves as witnesses to the stabbing and were removed from the property.
Neither overnight victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors had their own ideas about why these incidents both happened in the early hours of Sunday.
"It was homecoming weekend, so you have different people coming in," Eudoria Wilson said.
Both incidents remained under investigation Sunday afternoon.
