MARIES COUNTY, Mo. -

Maries County officials say a boater checking on a home was shocked Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Chris Heitman said the boater was checking on his house near the Nagagomi Lodge area when he was shocked. Phelps County emergency crews responded to the scene.

Heitman believes the boater was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition Wednesday.

As of Thursday afternoon, the man remains in critical condition.

Heitman is advising all residents to not drive in the standing water and to keep boats out of rivers and waterways due to the historic flooding.
