COLUMBIA, Mo. -

Columbia police are investigating a shots fired incident that happened early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the area of Appalachian Drive and Altai Drive in west Columbia just before 6 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a Jeep in the 3300 block of Appalachian Drive that had been hit by gunfire on the rear windshield. Police were able to recover five shell casings near that vehicle.

No injuries have been reported with the shooting and witnesses say they saw a red SUV leaving the area around the time of the shooting.

Police have no suspect description and they say the investigation is ongoing.
