Inmates being held in areas where temperatures dropped to just 11 degrees this week.

Cole County commissioners held an emergency vote Thursday morning to approve money to fix the heat in the holding cells at the courthouse.

The heat in the holding cells at the Cole County Courthouse is completely out.

Prisoner who are awaiting trial and those arrested are still being held in the cells.

According to Sheriff Greg White, the temperature in the cells dropped to just 11 degrees this week. Whie says his department is doing the best they can given the circumstances.

"Eleven degrees, that's just too cold," said White. "You can't house people at that. So, fighting to get the temperature up. Keeping people for minimal times, as with the staffing issues."

It's not known when the heat will be fixed.
