Thanksgiving is a little more than a week away, and experts say this year's holiday meal will cost about $3 less compared to 2012.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -

Thanksgiving is a little more than a week away, and experts say this year's meal will cost less.

The average cost to feed 10 people a normal Thanksgiving meal will be $48.61. That is down from $51.87 last year. The price per person comes to $4.86.

The meal consists of a 16-pound turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and beverages of coffee and milk.

ABC 17's Brad Johnson went to Hy-Vee in Columbia to see if he could buy the same items from the Missouri Farm Bureau's list for less than $50.

Johnson bought all 15 items on the list, and purchased mainly generic or storm brands, and came in at $45.50.

According to the Missouri Farm Bureau, most of the items decreased in price. Only sweet potatoes, milk and whipping cream increased.

The turkey was the biggest contributing factor to lower costs for the holiday. The average price per pound dropped 18 cents.

Compared to the rest of the country, the cost of a meal in Missouri is 43 cents less than the national average.
