ABC News confirmed investigators are questioning whether the suspect is also responsible for killing of a Denver Domino's pizza driver. Law enforcement say after the chase Thursday, they found a Domino's pizza jacket in the back of the suspect car. They believe that may link him to an unsolved killing from Sunday.
Nathan Leon's body was found Sunday in a ditch in Golden, Colorado. A father of three, 27 year-old Leon was shot multiple times.
*** UPDATE 5:21 P.M. ***
The chase started just after 11 a.m. Thursday morning. Deputies were following a black Cadillac with Colorado plates, which was a similar description from what witnesses saw in Tom Clement's neighborhood the night he was shot in his home.
Officers tried to pull the car over because it also had two different Colorado plates. When police tried to pull the car over the driver opened fire on officers and was waving his gun out the car window.
After a chase the car eventually crashed and the man started shooting again. Police finally shot back and hit the gunman.
He is now in critical condition in a Fort Worth hospital and machines are keeping him alive. Colorado law enforcement who are working the murder were also on their way to Texas to investigate as of Thursday afternoon.
At this point officials don't know the identity of the gunman. They are taking his fingerprints and are in the process of figuring out who he is.
*** ORIGINAL STORY ***
Deputies and FBI in Texas are investigating a possible link to the Colorado slaying of Tom Clements, after a high-speed chase and shootout left one suspect hospitalized Thursday afternoon.
According to local law enforcement in Colorado Springs and El Paso County, investigators believe the suspect in the Dallas incident may have a connection to Tuesday night's shooting death of Colorado Department of Corrections Chief Clements.
Deputies in Bowie, Texas, said the suspect vehicle had Colorado license plates. Sister station KRDO is reporting the suspect was taken to a hospital in Fort Worth. Texas authorities are planning a 4:30 p.m. CT news conference for updates.
Clements spent 31 years working for the Missouri DOC, much of that time working in Jefferson City and living in Columbia.
Video from the crash shows a wrecked black car, possibly a Cadillac. Colorado authorities had described the suspect vehicle leaving Clements' Monument neighborhood as a boxy, 90's style sedan.
