Police solve 'creepy' porcelain doll mystery

Deputies have solved the mystery of the appearance of porcelain dolls left on the front porches of several California homes.
KTLA reports that the Orange County Sheriff’s Department had been looking into the bizarre case, which had the parents in one San Clemente housing community concerned.
About eight families noticed the dolls over the past week. Officials initially were not sure if the dolls were a prank, so they began investigating to ensure the safety of the children in the area.
"People said the dolls slightly resemble their 10-year-old daughters, which is creepy," Lt. Jeff Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
Deputies are now saying that the mystery has been solved.
A woman who lives in the area and knows most of the families through church thought leaving the dolls would be a kind gesture of friendship.
In a statement, Hallock said, "Investigators have concluded that [the neighbor's] motivation was out of goodwill and that she intended it as a kind gesture."
Police say there will be no further investigation of the case.
