Man biking to propose to girlfriend fatally stabbed

Police say a man who was biking from Maryland to Miami to propose to his girlfriend was fatally stabbed by a homeless man outside a McDonald's restaurant.

Kevin Adorno, 28, from Connecticut, stopped at a McDonald's to grab a bite to eat and call his girlfriend while on his "bucket list" trek across multiple states when he was stabbed by a homeless man, reports The Associated Press.

After the attack, Adorno reportedly stumbled into the restaurant and was being helped by patrons, but died at the scene.

59-year-old Rene Herrera Cruz was arrested a short time later at a Burger King across the street, where he told officers he thought Adorno was using his cellphone to direct people to attack him.

Cruz is charged with first-degree murder.
