A Virginia man is lucky to be alive after an Amtrak train traveling nearly 80 mph hit his car as he drove over the tracks.
Untron Drew ignored warning lights and tried to drive around a crossing bar when his 2000 Ford Crown Victoria was hit Thursday morning in Waverly.
He was flown to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said.
Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, she said.
The train was traveling from Norfolk to Boston at the time.
None of the 46 passengers on board were injured, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said.
